Team Idea
Every monsoon you hear about a cloudburst or flash flood that caught people off guard, and honestly the worst part is that the ones in danger, like trekkers or villages in the hills, often have no signal when the warning would matter. So I'm working on both sides of it. One is a nowcasting model for really local severe weather, aiming for a 2 to 6 hour heads up. It uses IMDAA reanalysis, INSAT satellite data and terrain data, and I want to train and run it on AMD GPUs with ROCm and see how it holds up. The other is OffSOS, an Android app I already built in Kotlin that makes an offline mesh network between phones. So when the model flags something, the alert gets passed phone to phone even with no network, and people can send an SOS back the same way. I'm doing it solo and the goal is a demo that actually works end to end.
