Modern software development heavily relies on asynchronous workflows—such as waiting on a pull request, pivoting to a secondary task, and facing heavy context-switching overhead upon return. As developers often experience: "I know what files I had open, I don't remember what I had figured out." When a local development environment breaks or stops working, identifying the root cause typically demands tough, manual investigation across multiple tools and environment layers. DevTrace acts as an intelligent "black box" for the development lifecycle. It continuously and transparently preserves the relevant state of a developer's working environment and captures checkpoints of developer reasoning without forcing manual documentation. By automatically detecting the last known good state and analyzing differential changes when development breaks, the system reasons over the transition from "good" to "broken" to instantly pinpoint the root cause.
