Team Idea
Legacy Code Modernizer is an AI-powered tool (built for the IBM Bob 2.0 Hackathon) that helps developers safely modernize aging Java and COBOL codebases. Users upload a ZIP or GitHub repo, and the tool scans for legacy patterns (deprecated APIs, risky code, missing tests), scores each file's risk, and maps dependencies so teams know what's safe to refactor first. IBM Bob then explains each issue in plain language and suggests modernized rewrites. Everything comes together in a dashboard: a codebase health score, prioritized risk list, and dependency graph. Built with React, Vite, Tailwind (frontend) and Node.js/Express (backend), it handles failures gracefully and ships with demo fixtures for instant testing — making the hardest part of modernization, understanding legacy code, fast and low-risk.
