Getting Started With lablab

Welcome to the lablab.ai Hackathon

Introduction

We are thrilled to welcome you to the lablab.ai Hackathon. Everything you need happens on lablab.ai: you enroll, form a team, work together and submit your project there. You also need a Discord account, connected to your lablab.ai profile, and to be a member of the lablab.ai Discord server before you can create or join a team.

Every event sets some of its own rules, such as its dates, team size and submission form. When the event page says something specific, it takes priority over this guide.

Registration Steps

  1. Find your event on the hackathons page and enroll. Some events ask you to fill in a registration form and wait for the organizers to approve you before you can join a team.
  2. Complete your profile, and connect your Discord account there.
  3. Open the event and select Create or join a team.
  4. Create a team, or ask to join one. Joining is by request: the team admin accepts you. A team admin can also invite you personally, and you join when you accept.

Finding a Team

  • On the event dashboard, turn on Only show teams that are looking for members to see teams that accept requests, then select Request to join.
  • Teams also look for members on the lablab.ai Discord server.
  • If you create a team, choose who can join it: Open lets people ask to join, Invite-only means only the people you invite, and Closed means nobody can ask. You can invite participants with Add teammate on your team page.

Working Together

  • Your team page has a Chat for your team.
  • Your team admin can also create a Discord channel for the team with Create Discord Team, once at least two members have connected Discord.

Event Timeline

  • Hackathon Kick-Off: Check the event page for the time and where to watch. Kick-offs are usually streamed live.

  • Team Formation: If you haven't formed a team yet, do it before the event or right after the Kick-Off.

  • Team Size: Each event sets its own team size. The event page tells you the limit.

  • Individual Participation: While we recommend team collaborations for a richer hackathon experience, you can also take part on your own as a solo team.

Pro Tip: Teams composed of individuals with a diverse array of skills often produce the most groundbreaking solutions. If you are a developer, consider seeking out team members with design or business expertise to create a well-rounded team.

  • Getting Help: Ask your questions in the event's discussion on the live page, or on the lablab.ai Discord server. Some events also offer sessions with mentors; the organizers announce them.

  • Project Submission: Follow the Submission Guidelines and submit your project from your team page before the deadline. Only your team admin, and up to three teammates they choose, can submit.

We are eagerly looking forward to your contributions and wish you the best of luck in this endeavor. For any questions, visit our Help Center.
