Problem & Solution Statement Modern software repositories grow rapidly and often become difficult to understand, maintain, and debug. Developers joining an unfamiliar project may spend hours navigating folders, understanding dependencies, checking documentation, locating broken references, and identifying potential structural or code-quality issues. Even experienced teams face problems such as outdated dependencies, broken links, inconsistent project structures, unused files, and technical debt. Existing tools often focus on a single aspect of code quality and provide highly technical outputs, forcing developers to use multiple tools before they can understand the overall health of a repository. **Codebase Doctor** addresses this challenge by providing an intelligent **health-check and diagnostic system for software repositories**. Just as a doctor examines different indicators before providing a diagnosis, Codebase Doctor analyzes multiple aspects of a codebase and converts its findings into a clear, actionable health report. Users provide a repository to Codebase Doctor, after which the platform scans its structure and analyzes relevant files, links, dependencies, configurations, and other important indicators. It can identify issues such as broken links, outdated or problematic dependencies, structural inconsistencies, unnecessary files, and areas requiring developer attention. Instead of overwhelming users with raw technical output, the platform organizes findings into understandable categories and helps users determine what should be reviewed or fixed. The primary target users are **software developers, students, open-source contributors, development teams, and developers working with unfamiliar or legacy codebases**. The interaction is designed to be simple: users provide their repository, initiate the analysis, and receive a structured diagnostic report highlighting the health of their project and detected issues. This significantly reduces the time required for manual repository inspection. What makes Codebase Doctor creative is its **“doctor for your codebase” approach**. Rather than functioning as another isolated code-checking utility, it aims to provide a broader repository-level diagnosis. The system brings multiple checks together into a single workflow and presents them in a way that is accessible even to developers who may not be experts in every technology used within the repository. Codebase Doctor is particularly valuable when developers encounter a new repository and need to answer a simple but difficult question: **“What is wrong with this codebase, and where should I start?”** By automating repetitive inspection tasks and consolidating findings into one diagnostic experience, Codebase Doctor makes repository analysis faster and more efficient. Developers can spend less time manually searching for problems and more time solving them. Ultimately, Codebase Doctor transforms complex codebase inspection into a straightforward process: **provide the repository, run the diagnosis, understand its health, identify the issues, and take action.** This makes maintaining and understanding software projects faster, simpler, and more accessible.
