The Problem Developers working in unfamiliar codebases constantly face a high-friction bottleneck: figuring out what will break when they modify code. Manual tracking of cross-file imports, function calls, and implicit data flows is tedious and prone to human error, often leading to unexpected breakages in production. The Solution Repo Ripple is a local-first development tool that automates codebase comprehension and risk assessment. Instead of manually parsing ASTs or guessing dependencies, the tool relies on an offline pipeline driven by IBM Bob to analyze local code repositories. It produces a comprehensive dependency graph and proactively discovers plausible future change scenarios, calculating the exact blast radius for each. Target Users & Interaction Backend and full-stack developers working with complex local codebases. Developers interact with Repo Ripple through a clean dashboard interface where they load the generated analysis artifacts, select a discovered change scenario from a dropdown, and instantly visualize affected nodes categorized by direct and downstream risks. Creativity, Uniqueness & Efficiency Unlike traditional static code analysis tools that only show rigid architectural maps or require manual search queries, Repo Ripple introduces a proactive discovery pass. IBM Bob autonomously proposes realistic change scenarios and evaluates their blast radius upfront. It bridges the gap between code intelligence and safe refactoring by instantly generating contextual test scaffolds and verification checklists, ensuring developers can refactor complex codebases with absolute confidence in under 90 seconds.
