Dark Factory by 3A Battery is a fully autonomous, parallel multi-agent software engineering factory built on BAND Desktop. Designed to overcome the brittle protocols, circular debates, and token explosion common in multi-agent systems, our factory delivers complete full-stack applications with zero human intervention. ### Factory Architecture & Roles We decouple creative engineering from objective verification across 9 specialized seats: - Productive Creators: @architect establishes system design and technical specs. Dedicated @dev and @tester pairs build the backend and frontend simultaneously, while @int_tester authors end-to-end integration suites. - Silent Status Checkers: Independent checkers (@checker, @checker_fe, @int_checker) execute test suites only after creators finish. They write zero files, generate zero chat noise, and output strict PASS/FAIL verdicts. ### Workflow & Self-Healing Pipeline The Architect writes the specification file to disk, establishing an immutable single source of truth. Backend and frontend streams execute in parallel without premature test runs. When a test fails, the Checker routes the failure to the Tester to diagnose and guide the Developer through targeted code fixes. Once unit streams pass, the Integration Checker validates the system before final Architect release. ### Key Engineering Innovations - Zero Redundant Work: Agents state concrete decisions only, never parroting spec content. - Human-Style Dialogue: Plain English communication handles edge cases naturally without fragile JSON schemas. - Asymmetric Compute: Top-tier reasoning powers the Architect, fast throughput models drive creators, and lightweight setups power silent checkers to slash token costs. - Production Hardened: Resolved real platform edge cases, including eliminating UI-freezing thinking events and enforcing mandatory handoffs to prevent pipeline deadlocks.

🌎 Online Hackathon | 💻 Online Build: Sept 26 - Oct 5, 2026 A virtual, global hackathon. Build from anywhere in the world. Dark Factory is the official hackathon of WeAreDevelopers World Congress North America, presented by BAND, but you don't need to be in San Jose to take part. For one week, you build a software factory in BAND Desktop: a band of coding agents that plans work, implements it and checks its own results. 🎟️ Bonus for sign-ups: you are eligible for a free ticket to WeAreDevelopers World Congress North America in San Jose (Sep 23–25). If you do go, stop by the BAND booth: a surprise is waiting for you.
