AI Job Agent is an intelligent, agentic AI-powered platform designed to transform the traditional job-search process into a personalized, automated, and efficient career-assistance experience. Today, job seekers often spend significant time searching across multiple job portals, comparing job descriptions, checking eligibility, modifying resumes, writing cover letters, filling repetitive application forms, and tracking applications manually. This process is time-consuming and can make it difficult for candidates to identify the opportunities that genuinely match their skills and career goals. Our solution addresses this challenge by creating a personal AI career agent that understands a candidate's profile, skills, experience, preferences, and career objectives. The agent continuously searches approved job sources and company career pages, analyzes available opportunities, and identifies jobs that are relevant to the candidate. The system goes beyond simple keyword matching. Using AI-powered semantic matching, it compares job requirements with the candidate's skills, education, experience, preferred location, salary expectations, work mode, and other constraints. Each recommended job can include an explanation of why the candidate is a good match, which requirements are already satisfied, and where skill gaps may exist. Once a suitable opportunity is identified, the AI Job Agent can generate personalized application materials. It can adapt resume content to emphasize relevant experience, create a job-specific cover letter, and assist with common screening questions while maintaining factual consistency with the candidate's actual profile. This reduces repetitive work while allowing the candidate to review and edit the generated content. A key feature of the project is the human-in-the-loop approach. Instead of allowing the AI to make consequential decisions completely on its own, the candidate remains in control. The agent can search, analyze, recommend, draft, and prepare an application, while the user can review, modify, approve, or reject the final submission. This makes the system more transparent and responsible. The platform also includes an application tracking system that maintains information about submitted applications, company names, job positions, application dates, deadlines, current status, and follow-up activities. Over time, this information can help the agent provide more useful career assistance, such as identifying recurring skill gaps and suggesting areas for improvement. For the IBM Hackathon, the proposed architecture can leverage IBM watsonx.ai for generative AI and agent intelligence, watsonx Orchestrate for coordinating multi-step workflows, IBM Cloud for scalable deployment, and responsible-AI practices for transparency, privacy, and governance. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) can be used to ground responses in the candidate's resume, preferences, and verified job information rather than relying only on general model knowledge. Core Workflow Candidate Profile → Job Discovery → Job Analysis → Intelligent Matching → Personalized Application → Human Approval → Application Tracking The ultimate goal of AI Job Agent is not simply to automate applications. It is to create an intelligent career companion that helps candidates spend less time on repetitive job-search activities and more time making informed career decisions.
