Git Ghost
The Problem In modern software development, code evolves infinitely faster than documentation. Over time, critical business rules, architectural constraints, and security validations become "tribal knowledge"—living solely in the minds of senior developers or buried deep within the codebase. When new developers join a project or contribute to open source, they spend countless hours reverse-engineering these undocumented rules, often breaking things in the process. We call this invisible, undocumented logic "ghost requirements." The Solution Git Ghost is an AI-powered repository analyzer designed to hunt down and expose these hidden constraints. It automatically reads through raw source code and git commit history to reverse-engineer undocumented business rules, data constraints, performance bottlenecks, and code smells. By leveraging the advanced reasoning capabilities of the NVIDIA Gemma 4 31B model, it translates complex code syntax into plain-English architectural insights. Target Users & How They Interact Git Ghost is built for software engineers, technical leads, engineering managers, and open-source maintainers. The user experience is entirely frictionless: a user simply pastes any public GitHub URL into our sleek, retro-themed web interface. In the background, Git Ghost performs a lightweight shallow clone, intelligently filters out irrelevant files (like binaries or node_modules), and orchestrates an AI analysis. Within 60 seconds, the user is presented with a rich, interactive dashboard. Each discovered "ghost" requirement is categorized, assigned an AI confidence score, and backed by hard evidence—including exact file paths, code snippets, and line numbers. What Makes it Creative and Unique What makes Git Ghost unique is that it goes far beyond traditional static analysis. Standard linters only look for syntax errors, and traditional documentation tools only read existing comments. Git Ghost acts like a senior software architect: it infers intent. By analyzing exception handling, guard clauses, database constraints, and the context of recent commit messages, it logically deduces the underlying business rules that developers never explicitly wrote down. Effectiveness and Efficiency Git Ghost addresses the documentation crisis with incredible efficiency. Instead of downloading gigabytes of repository data, it utilizes optimized shallow cloning and smart file classification (supporting Python, Dart, JavaScript, and more) to extract only what matters. By combining a FastAPI backend with a highly-optimized LangChain workflow, it minimizes AI token usage while maximizing context for the NVIDIA model. Ultimately, Git Ghost saves development teams hours of painful code excavation, turning invisible tribal knowledge into transparent, actionable documentation in under a minute.
