First Commit
New developers joining a team mid-sprint face a common, expensive problem: a ticket lands (e.g. "add rate limiting to the auth service"), but the codebase is unfamiliar. They don't know which files matter, which are risky to touch, what's already tested, or whether the documentation still matches reality. Industry research puts average onboarding ramp-up at 4-8 weeks. First Commit is built for exactly this moment. Target users are developers onboarding to a new codebase (or returning to an old one), and the engineering teams who want to shorten that ramp-up. The interaction is simple: open the Streamlit dashboard, enter a repository and a plain-English task description, and click Run. Within seconds, four specialized subagents run in two parallel waves - an Architecture Mapper (folder/import structure), a Risk Historian (git churn and bug-fix density), a Test Coverage Mapper (which tests actually exercise the relevant code), and a Doc-Drift Checker (documentation vs. actual code behavior) - and a synthesis agent merges their findings into one ranked "flight plan": the exact files to look at, ordered by relevance, each tagged with risk level, test coverage, and documentation drift. What makes this original is the combination, not any single technique: git-churn risk mining and doc-drift detection both exist individually, but synthesizing four live, parallel agent perspectives into one ranked, task-specific plan - and making that parallel execution visually obvious on a timing chart - turns a generic "code assistant" into a measurable onboarding accelerator. We demoed First Commit live against a real, well-known open-source repository (pallets/flask) with a realistic task (adding login rate-limiting), completing a full run in under two seconds. The effect: what would take a new developer hours of manual exploration is compressed into a single ranked report, directly cutting time-to-first-pull-request.
