APIShift
The Challenge: When production APIs evolve, even minor breaking changes—such as renaming a response property or refactoring a flat payload parameter into a nested object—cause widespread downstream regressions. In continuous integration pipelines, a single contract revision frequently triggers dozens of seemingly unrelated, cascading test failures across service consumers. Engineering teams suffer from severe alert fatigue, spending hours manually cross-referencing messy stack traces, locating call sites across microservice repositories, and writing error-prone adapter shims. The Solution: APIShift is an AI-assisted developer agent that automates contract migration, blast-radius discovery, and test-failure triage through a deterministic closed-loop pipeline. Instead of relying on naive string matching across error logs, APIShift couples static AST analysis with cognitive synthesis to identify, cluster, and repair breaking changes without human intervention. The platform executes across four cohesive modules: Impact Analyzer (Module A): Statically diffs OpenAPI 3.0 specifications (before.yaml vs. after.yaml) and traverses repository call sites to trace the exact blast radius. Migration Adapter Codegen (Module B): Synthesizes non-destructive, backward-compatible client adapters (migrationAdapter.ts) that intercept transformed fields (e.g., mapping totalAmount back to total and wrapping customer_id into customer: { id }), preserving legacy expectations while supporting new schemas. Failure Clusterer (Module C): Deduplicates raw test assertion errors against an AST call-graph, mapping 23 raw test probe failures into 2 distinct architectural root causes—a 91.3% reduction in developer triage noise. Root-Cause Fixer & Verification (Module D): Evaluates patches, executes affected test suites, and verifies 100% green test passes (40/40 probes) while proving that zero test assertions were deleted, skipped, or weakened. Uniqueness & Value: Unlike passive linters or open-loop generative coding assistants, APIShift operates with bounded evidence. It produces an auditable verification ledger establishing that all existing tests remain intact while proving full backward compatibility. By compressing 23 raw alert notifications down to 2 actionable tickets and auto-generating verified adapter shims, APIShift slashes Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) from hours to under 20 seconds, ensuring safe, zero-downtime API rollouts.
