Problem & Solution Statement Many students, junior developers, and developers joining existing projects struggle when they are given a codebase they did not build themselves. Before they can fix a bug, add a feature, or deploy an application, they first have to understand how the project works. This can take hours of reading unfamiliar files, searching for answers, and trying to understand where different parts of the application connect. Existing AI coding tools can generate code or suggest fixes, but they do not always help developers understand the code behind those suggestions. Yazi Dev is an AI-powered developer assistant designed to solve this problem by helping developers understand their codebase before they change it. Users connect a GitHub repository, and Yazi Dev analyses the project structure, technologies, dependencies, important files, and potential problem areas. Developers can then investigate bugs, understand confusing code, identify testing gaps, and check deployment readiness using the context of their actual repository. Instead of receiving generic answers, users receive explanations and recommendations based on the project they are working on. Yazi Dev is designed primarily for students, junior developers, developers onboarding onto unfamiliar projects, and developers working with code they did not originally create. The experience follows a simple workflow: Connect → Understand → Investigate → Validate → Ship One of Yazi Dev's key features is its focus on **learning and understanding**, not just code generation. A developer can ask questions such as “Where does this project handle authentication?” or “Why is this error happening?” and receive an explanation connected to the actual codebase. A Learning Mode can also break down unfamiliar code and explain what it does, why it is important, and what could happen if it is changed. What makes Yazi Dev creative and unique is this shift from “AI that writes code for you” to “AI that helps you understand the code you are responsible for.” The goal is not to replace the developer's understanding, but to build it. Yazi Dev is being developed with IBM Bob 2.0 and designed to leverage. Bob 2.0 helps us work across the repository while building and improving the solution, while Gemini provides the intelligence for analysing and explaining the codebase. Yazi Dev addresses the developer workflow efficiently by bringing repository understanding, debugging, testing, and deployment readiness into one focused platform. The goal is simple: Make complicated code easier to understand, so developers can become more confident and capable of working with it. Know your code. Build with confidence.
