Version Fault is a VS Code extension built to solve a common but frustrating developer problem: a release worked before, a newer release breaks, and the team must figure out exactly what changed and why. Instead of manually reading commits, comparing diffs, rerunning tests, and tracing failures across files, Version Fault turns regression triage into one guided workflow. The developer selects a known working release and a broken release, then clicks “Investigate Regression.” The extension runs a Git analyzer to collect commits, changed files, and diffs, and a pytest analyzer to capture failing tests and error output. A report generator combines this evidence into a structured regression context. IBM Bob then becomes the reasoning and repair layer. It reads the generated evidence together with the relevant source code, tests, and Git history, identifies the most likely root-cause commit or function, explains why the change caused the observed failures, proposes the smallest safe fix, applies it in Agent mode, and reruns the tests to verify the result. Version Fault is designed for developers, maintainers, and teams dealing with regressions in unfamiliar or fast-moving codebases. Its key idea is evidence-first AI: Bob is not asked to guess from a vague prompt; it receives structured Git and test evidence collected automatically by the tool. The result is a focused developer tool that compresses a repetitive debugging workflow into a single in-editor investigation, ending with a tested fix rather than an unsupported suggestion.
