RepoReveal: AI-Powered Codebase Onboarding Problem Understanding an unfamiliar codebase is one of the biggest challenges for developers joining a new project. A GitHub repository may contain hundreds of files, multiple frameworks, complex dependencies, undocumented architecture, tests, CI/CD workflows, and configuration files. Developers often spend hours or even days exploring the repository before they understand where to start, how to run it, and how the different components fit together. Solution RepoReveal transforms any public GitHub repository into an interactive codebase onboarding dashboard within seconds. The user simply provides a public GitHub repository URL. RepoReveal uses IBM Bob IDE’s parallel subagent capabilities to analyze different aspects of the repository simultaneously. Specialized analysis tasks examine the file structure, technology stack, dependencies, entry points, scripts, architecture, tests, CI/CD configuration, and documentation. RepoReveal then brings these results together into a single, easy-to-navigate dashboard with six focused views: 1. Overview — Provides repository context through stars, forks, languages, recent commits, and README information. 2. Get Started — Gives new developers actionable onboarding information, including setup and run commands, important files to read, entry points, an automatically generated architecture flowchart, and repository-specific contributor tasks. 3. Explorer — Allows users to browse the complete file tree, inspect file contents, and understand the purpose of individual files through AI-generated explanations. 4. Architecture — Converts the analysis into a visual representation of how the major components of the application interact. 5. Dependencies — Identifies frameworks, libraries, packages, runtime requirements, and development tooling. 6. Quality & CI — Surfaces testing frameworks, test commands, CI/CD workflows, build scripts, linting, and deployment configuration. Target Users RepoReveal is designed for developers, open-source contributors, engineering teams, interns, and students who need to quickly understand an unfamiliar repository. Creative and Unique Approach The key innovation is combining IBM Bob’s parallel AI analysis with a purpose-built onboarding experience. Instead of providing a generic chatbot that answers questions one at a time, RepoReveal proactively analyzes the repository from multiple perspectives and organizes the results around the actual questions a new developer needs answered. Impact RepoReveal reduces the manual effort involved in codebase discovery and turns a complex repository into a structured, actionable starting point. Developers can move from receiving an unfamiliar GitHub repository to understanding its structure, setting it up, and identifying where to contribute much faster. Paste a GitHub URL. Let IBM Bob reveal the codebase. Start contributing.
