Developers often waste valuable time getting existing software projects to run because configuration requirements are scattered across source code, .env files, .env.example files, Docker configuration, and outdated documentation. A single missing environment variable can cause an application to fail, while unused or outdated variables create confusion for new developers. EnvGuard is an AI-powered configuration health tool designed to solve this problem. A developer selects or opens a repository, and EnvGuard scans the project to discover environment-variable usage across the codebase. It compares those requirements with .env.example, Docker configuration, and project documentation to identify missing variables, unused variables, and configuration or documentation inconsistencies. EnvGuard then presents the results through a configuration health dashboard, showing a clear health score, issue severity, affected files, and explanations of why each issue matters. The AI analysis layer converts technical findings into developer-friendly explanations and recommended actions. Instead of stopping at detection, EnvGuard provides a safe fix workflow. Developers can review proposed changes before applying them. The MVP can automatically update .env.example and documentation while protecting the real .env file and never exposing secret values. After fixes are applied, EnvGuard re-scans the repository and shows the before-and-after configuration health. The target users are developers, engineering teams, and people onboarding onto unfamiliar repositories. What makes EnvGuard different is its focused workflow: Scan → Understand → Fix → Verify. It combines deterministic repository analysis with AI-powered explanation while keeping sensitive configuration values protected. The project was developed with IBM Bob 2.0 as the AI development partner, using repository-level context to build and refine the complete developer workflow. EnvGuard's goal is simple: reduce configuration-related setup and debugging time and help developers understand exactly what a project needs to run.
