IBM Bob Bridge
The Challenge Over 80% of in-person banking transactions and 43% of financial core systems still rely on COBOL mainframe logic. Modern enterprises do not rewrite mainframes; they wrap and connect them to modern cloud channels, specifically Salesforce CRM and SAP ERP. However, a dangerous operational gap exists: mainframe developers cannot read Salesforce/SAP flows, and CRM/ERP admins cannot read COBOL. When a developer modifies legacy COBOL logic—such as updating sign conventions or field lengths—it frequently causes silent downstream failures. Requests disappear without error messages, credits fail to disburse, and account IDs truncate in cloud ledgers. Catching these breaking changes currently requires days of cross-departmental meetings or, worse, reacting to live production outages. As senior mainframe expertise retires, this tribal knowledge vanishes, compounding enterprise risk. The Solution & Target Users IBM Bob Bridge is an enterprise agentic AI intelligence layer built on IBM Bob. It bridges the gap between core banking mainframes and downstream cloud platforms. Target Users: Salesforce/SAP Administrators, Mainframe COBOL/RPG Developers, Enterprise Solution Architects, and Compliance Officers. User Interaction: Developers simply open a Pull Request. Bob Bridge automatically ingests the diff, runs a 5-agent parallel analysis, executes a deterministic verification workflow, and posts a plain-English impact statement directly to GitHub PR comments, while updating a searchable Living Business-Rule Glossary. Creativity, Uniqueness & Architecture What makes IBM Bob Bridge unique is its hybrid execution architecture: Bob 2.0 Plan Mode & Document Understanding: Ingests COBOL copybooks and App Connect integration mapping schemas directly as structured context before spawning subagents. Parallel Subagent Fan-Out: Simultaneously deploys five specialized IBM Bob personas—Legacy AST Agent, Integration Mapping Agent, Business Translation Agent, Test-Data Agent, and Compliance/PII Shield Agent. Proof Over Hallucination: Unlike standard LLM tools that guess whether code is safe, Bob Bridge runs a deterministic verification workflow. It executes sample transactions against before-and-after logic to present concrete, empirical proof of downstream breakage. Living Knowledge Capture: Automatically persists every translated business rule into a searchable glossary, preserving institutional mainframe knowledge permanently. Effectiveness & Impact IBM Bob Bridge dramatically increases enterprise agility and reliability: Speed: Reduces downstream breakage detection time from days (meeting-dependent) to under 2 minutes. Accuracy: Eliminates silent production outages by proving exact record drop counts and ledger discrepancies before code merge. Governance: Automatically enforces PCI-DSS, GLBA, and SOX Section 404 compliance with a certified synthetic data shield.
