Tessera AI is an outcome-aware control plane for IBM Bob designed to solve a growing problem in agentic software engineering: not every task should receive the same workflow depth, and the agent that writes code should not be the only system deciding whether the result is correct. Lightweight workflows can save time and compute on routine work, but they may miss important failures; heavier workflows provide more assurance, but using them for everything creates unnecessary cost and friction. Tessera addresses this by separating execution from verification. A developer submits a task, Tessera profiles it and selects an appropriate workflow such as FAST or ASSURANCE, and IBM Bob performs the engineering work. Tessera then independently evaluates the result, records the outcome, and preserves both successes and failures as evidence. That evidence can influence future routing decisions for comparable tasks. The target users are engineering teams, platform teams, and organizations deploying AI coding agents in environments where reliability, cost, and auditability matter. Users interact with Tessera through a web control plane and through IBM Bob itself via MCP. The web app shows task profiles, routing decisions, workflow eligibility, execution history, verification evidence, and outcomes, while Bob remains the actual engineering runtime. The key differentiator is Tessera’s outcome memory. In the demonstrated workflow, a low-risk billing task was initially routed to FAST. Bob completed the change and ordinary tests passed, but Tessera’s independent evaluator detected a hidden rounding regression. That failed FAST outcome was preserved. When a comparable low-risk task was submitted later, Tessera automatically selected ASSURANCE with the reason PRIOR_FAST_FAILURE, without manually increasing risk or forcing the route. Bob then used the stronger workflow, corrected the issue, and passed independent verification. This makes Tessera innovative because it does more than route tasks or test outputs independently; it connects the two. Verified outcomes become inputs to future workflow decisions. The result is a system designed to reduce unnecessary workflow cost, reduce repeated rework, and increase the rate of independently verified successful outcomes. Tessera also includes an optional Qiskit research extension that explores how the same control-plane model could eventually allocate work across different computational backends while preserving the same policy and verification boundary.
