Problem Statement: Modernizing legacy codebases (like aging Java and COBOL) is high-risk, time-consuming, and complex. Developers often struggle to understand hidden dependencies, deprecated APIs, risky patterns, and missing tests, making manual refactoring prone to breaking critical systems. Solution Statement: Legacy Code Modernizer simplifies and accelerates code modernization. Users upload a ZIP file or connect a GitHub repository to get instant visibility into codebase risk and structure. The tool scans files, assigns risk scores, maps dependency relationships, and highlights priorities for refactoring. Target Users & Interaction: Designed for software engineers, tech leads, and enterprise modernization teams. Users interact with a clean dashboard featuring a Codebase Health Score, a prioritized risk list, an interactive dependency graph, and instant demo fixtures for testing. What Makes it Unique: It combines dynamic dependency mapping with IBM Bob’s plain-language context, transforming raw static analysis into actionable, safe refactoring steps. Built with React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Node.js, and Express, it gracefully handles failure modes while keeping technical debt visibility fast and intuitive.
