DevPilot AI is an AI-powered developer workflow assistant designed to reduce the time and effort developers spend understanding, debugging, testing, reviewing, and preparing software for release. Modern software projects can become difficult to maintain as codebases grow. Developers often spend significant time understanding unfamiliar code, locating potential problems, creating unit tests, reviewing changes, and manually checking whether a feature or change is ready for release. These activities can be repetitive, time-consuming, and error-prone. DevPilot AI addresses this problem by providing a centralized AI-assisted workflow for developers. A developer can provide a project or selected source files and ask DevPilot AI to analyze the codebase, explain components and dependencies, identify potential issues, suggest improvements, generate unit tests, review changes, and summarize release-readiness concerns. The solution is designed primarily for software developers, technical leads, reviewers, and teams working with existing or evolving codebases. Instead of using AI only for code autocomplete, DevPilot AI focuses on the broader developer workflow. Different AI-assisted tasks can be performed for different stages of development, allowing developers to investigate problems and obtain actionable information without manually performing every analysis step. A key aspect of the project is the use of IBM Bob as part of the development workflow. Bob is used to assist with implementation, code analysis, debugging, testing, documentation, and iterative development of the application. Agent-oriented workflows and task-based development are used where appropriate to demonstrate how AI can support more than simple code generation. The project focuses on measurable developer productivity improvements. For example, repetitive code-analysis and test-generation activities can be reduced from manual investigation to an AI-assisted workflow. The generated results can also help developers identify potential issues earlier and make the review and release-preparation process more structured. DevPilot AI demonstrates how an AI coding environment can be extended from code generation into a practical developer workflow assistant that helps developers understand existing software, improve code quality, generate supporting tests, and prepare changes for release.
