Problem & Solution Statement: Modern software development does not end when code is written. A single change can introduce bugs, affect dependent modules, require new tests, and make existing documentation outdated. Developers often have to manually investigate these ripple effects across a repository, which is time-consuming and easy to miss. CodeGuard is an AI-powered engineering workflow designed to help developers validate the complete lifecycle of a code change. Instead of treating bug fixing, pull-request review, dependency analysis, and documentation as separate tasks, CodeGuard connects them into one unified workflow. The system accepts a GitHub repository together with an issue or pull request. It first analyzes the repository structure, programming languages, frameworks, source files, tests, configuration, and documentation. Specialized agents can then investigate different aspects of the change in parallel. CodeGuard provides four core capabilities: 1. Bug Fix — investigates a GitHub issue, identifies relevant files and the potential root cause, proposes or applies a focused fix, generates regression tests, and validates the result. 2. PR Review — analyzes pull requests for potential bugs, security issues, testing gaps, code-quality problems, and regression risks using evidence from the repository. 3. PR Detective — traces the ripple effect of a change beyond the modified lines. It identifies related modules, callers, APIs, tests, database interactions, and other potentially affected components. 4. Documentation Sync — compares the actual implementation with README files, API documentation, configuration instructions, and architecture documentation to identify documentation drift. The key idea behind CodeGuard is evidence-based engineering analysis. Findings should reference actual files, symbols, code relationships, tests, or documentation rather than producing unsupported suggestions. The target users are software developers, engineering teams, students, and maintainers working with GitHub repositories. A developer can provide an issue or PR and receive a structured report showing what changed, what may be affected, what needs testing, and whether documentation needs to be updated. CodeGuard demonstrates how IBM Bob 2.0 can be used beyond simple code generation by orchestrating specialized agents, parallel investigation, repository understanding, code modification, testing, and documentation analysis as one connected engineering workflow.
