PROBLEM STATEMENT: Engineers decomposing legacy monolithic codebases into microservices face massive refactoring risk. Decoupling a monolith means tracing cross-module function calls, shared database tables, and implicit domain dependencies across thousands of lines of code. Manual audits rely on weeks of tribal guesswork — and getting the cut wrong results in high-latency distributed monoliths, circular dependencies, and cascading production failures. SOLUTION: Rubix is an intelligent Repository Decomposition Advisor powered by IBM Bob 2.0 and LangGraph state graph pipelines. It automates domain boundary analysis by scanning full repository codebases, identifying natural service candidates, auditing cross-module coupling signals, and generating a verified, low-risk microservice extraction order. TARGET USERS: Software architects, tech leads, and engineering managers modernizing legacy codebases. HOW IT WORKS: Users submit a GitHub repository URL into Rubix via an interactive web app (rubix.pxxl.click) or within the IBM Bob IDE. 1. Repository Ingestion Parses codebase ASTs, function call graphs, database schemas, and API endpoints. 2. Domain Boundary Discovery Leverages IBM Bob 2.0's full-repo reasoning engine to cluster modules into cohesive domain boundaries (e.g. Payments, Authentication, Inventory). 3. Coupling Audit Calculates a quantitative 3-Signal Coupling Risk Score evaluating cross-module call frequency, shared database write operations, and dependency graph density. 4. Extraction Ranking Ranks candidate services by isolation safety and tags the optimal starting candidate (#1 Extract First). Users then inspect an interactive, color-coded Boundary Map and export a structured migration plan. WHAT MAKES RUBIX UNIQUE: Unlike generic linters or simple LLM prompts, Rubix combines graph static analysis with IBM Bob 2.0's deep repository context. It explicitly tracks data creation ownership — who creates a resource vs. who reads it — eliminating data boundary ambiguity before writing a single line of migration code. BUSINESS & TECHNICAL IMPACT: Rubix transforms weeks of dangerous architectural guesswork into a 60-second, automated, verifiable refactoring roadmap — drastically reducing legacy modernization risk and accelerating cloud-native migration.
