Problem Debugging legacy applications is not just about finding a broken line of code. In systems such as TaskFlow, failures can arise from frontend state, API requests, backend logic, database operations, validation, configuration, or changes made over time. Asking an AI to “fix the bug” may create a patch without proving what failed, why it failed, or whether the change is safe. The real challenge is building a reliable evidence trail from the first risk signal to a validated repair. Teams also need a way to help junior developers understand old codebases, outdated programming languages, and poorly documented systems. Solution DeepTrace is an AI-assisted debugging and legacy-code investigation workflow that makes this process structured, traceable, and controlled. Before changing code, DeepTrace maps the repository: frontend, backend, database, API routes, authentication, tests, configuration, and documentation. It then runs a Risk Pulse to identify possible reliability, security, data-consistency, synchronization, validation, and testing issues. DeepTrace also supports junior coders. It explains difficult legacy code and outdated languages in simple terms, describes what old functions do, clarifies unfamiliar syntax and architecture, and links older patterns to modern development concepts. This helps new team members learn how a system works before they modify it. After a significant finding is chosen, DeepTrace enters Replay, investigating the failure through the smallest realistic reproduction. It traces the actual data path: UI → Frontend State → API → Backend → Database → Response → UI This identifies the exact boundary where expected and actual behavior differ, instead of mistaking a visible symptom for the root cause. DeepTrace then uses Timeline Dive. By reviewing Git history, blame information, related commits, later changes, code, and tests, it reconstructs the conditions that allowed the issue to exist. The result is a blameless root-cause analysis based on repository evidence, not guesses. The evidence becomes a minimal repair plan: affected files and functions, proposed change, regression test, validation checks, risks, rollback plan, and definition of done. Investigation stays read-only until a human approval gate is reached. Only after the team approves the evidence-backed plan does implementation begin. The final stages apply the approved repair, add a regression test that fails before the fix and passes afterward, run relevant tests and the full suite where available, and record the validation evidence. Target Users and Interaction DeepTrace is for developers and teams maintaining existing or legacy applications, especially junior developers learning older code, outdated languages, and undocumented systems. Teams provide a repository, select a meaningful risk finding, and guide the investigation through each DeepTrace stage. The system creates structured reports that preserve the reasoning and evidence behind every decision. What Makes It Different DeepTrace is not simply another AI patch generator. It connects the full debugging lifecycle: Repository Understanding → Risk Detection → Reproduction → Full-Stack Tracing → Git-Based Root Cause → Repair Planning → Human Approval → Regression Testing → Validation It combines debugging with learning: junior engineers can understand legacy technologies and code patterns before changing them. The result is an evidence-backed record explaining what changed, why the failure happened, why the repair is appropriate, and how it was validated. DeepTrace turns AI-assisted debugging into a controlled engineering process rather than an opaque “generate and hope” workflow. Benefits By requiring evidence before edits, DeepTrace reduces the risk of rushed fixes, accidental regressions, and undocumented decisions. It gives teams a reviewable investigation record and a safer way to learn from real problems.
