Release Readiness Copilot

Before every release, developers manually check for breaking API changes, missing test coverage, and stale documentation. This process is slow, tedious, and error-prone — under deadline pressure, steps get skipped, and breaking changes slip into production undetected. Existing tools either help you write code faster or run tests after the fact; nothing proactively verifies whether a release is actually safe to ship before you ship it. Release Readiness Copilot solves this using IBM Bob 2.0's Agent mode and parallel subagents. Four specialized agents — a Changelog Agent, a Breaking Change Detector, a Test Gap Checker, and a Risk Scorer — run simultaneously, each in its own clean context, analyzing the current code changes against the project's existing tests and API specification. Their findings are synthesized into a single Release Readiness Report with a clear, actionable ship/no-ship verdict. Document understanding lets the Breaking Change agent compare the API's actual runtime behavior against its own documented contract (api-spec.md), catching contract violations that a rushed human reviewer could easily miss. Target users are developers and small engineering teams preparing a release, especially in fast-moving projects without a dedicated release manager. They interact with it simply: make their code changes, run the Bob workflow, and receive a structured report before merging or deploying. We demonstrated the full loop on a sample Express.js API: we seeded a breaking field rename, an undocumented new route, and a missing test. Bob's four agents caught all three issues in parallel and correctly blocked the release as high-risk. After applying fixes, we re-ran the same four agents, which confirmed the release was now safe — and even caught a new, subtler documentation gap introduced by the fix itself, proving the workflow keeps working iteratively, not just as a one-shot check. What makes this creative and effective is that it treats release readiness as a multi-lens problem best solved by parallel specialized agents rather than one generalist pass, directly showcasing Bob's subagent and parallel-task capabilities rather than just using AI to write code.
