Contracty
Most small business owners aren't lawyers, but they're expected to sign contracts like they are. A supplier agreement, a lease, a client contract, a settlement — these documents shape real financial risk, and hiring counsel to review every single one simply isn't realistic for a small operation. The AI tools that promise to fill that gap usually come with a quiet tradeoff: uploading a confidential business contract to someone else's server. Contracty exists to remove that tradeoff entirely. Contracty runs fully in the browser. No uploaded document ever touches a server — there is no backend processing step where a contract's contents leave the user's own machine. For a document that may contain sensitive commercial terms, that's not a minor detail; it's the whole design constraint the product is built around. Under the hood, Contracty uses a three-stage agent pipeline built with IBM Bob. An ExtractorAgent pulls the raw text out of an uploaded PDF. A RiskAnalyzerAgent checks that text against fifteen-plus recognized risk patterns spanning indemnification, automatic renewal, uncapped liability, unilateral modification rights, one-sided attorney's-fee clauses, and overly broad confidentiality terms, among others. A ReportGeneratorAgent then assembles everything into a report that someone without a legal background can actually read. The part of Contracty we're most proud of isn't the detection — it's what each flagged clause gives the user afterwards. Every finding shows the exact sentence pulled from the user's own document, so there's no paraphrasing or invented citation. Each finding also includes an "EQ Read" that explains the likely reasoning or leverage behind why a clause was written that way, plus a straightforward leverage estimate. And instead of stopping at "this is risky," each finding closes with two lines the user could genuinely say out loud: an opening ask, and a firmer fallback if that ask gets refused. Contracty currently covers three practice areas — Real Estate, Business & Commercial, and Civil Litigation — each calibrated to the clauses most likely to appear in that kind of agreement. A fourth area, Employment Law, is planned next. The product targets at small business owners, freelancers, and first-time founders — people who are perfectly capable of making sound decisions for their business but were never taught how to read a contract. A user signs in; upload a PDF, choose the relevant practice area, and get a full risk report within seconds, sorted by severity from "Pause Before Signing" to "Watch." To be clear about scope: Contracty is not a substitute for legal counsel. It's built as a first step — something that gets a small business owner into their negotiation, or into a conversation with a real attorney, already understanding what they're looking at rather than signing on faith.
