SpeakUp — Learn and speak what matters most
Millions of people need English or German for one real moment: a doctor visit, a job interview, a meeting, moving abroad. Most apps teach generic lessons and assume you already understand English instructions. SpeakUp works in the language you already know (Hindi, Telugu or English). You tell it your goal, your deadline and your daily time. A 3-minute speaking check, powered by AssemblyAI Universal-3 Pro Streaming, uses live transcripts, word timings and confidence to show exactly where you stand: "You can use 12 of 40 words for talking to a doctor." From there you get a personal plan with daily labs: learn words with pronunciation hints in your own script, answer grammar checks, fill a story, get corrected, and speak if you want. You only move on when you've actually learned it. SpeakUp Rooms are the heart of the product: paid, time-bound conversations with real fluent partners, around a script built from your scenario. Each person's voice streams separately to AssemblyAI, so the app tracks the script line by line, notices when the learner is stuck and cues the partner to slow down, checks safety live in four languages, and turns the conversation into evidence for the next lesson. Partners earn only when the transcript proves a real session happened. Built with AssemblyAI Realtime STT (Universal-3 Pro + Whisper Streaming), AssemblyAI LLM Gateway, Convex, LiveKit, Razorpay and Next.js. Built first for my mother.
