AirTrace is a comprehensive, privacy-focused web application designed to help individuals track, understand, and minimize their exposure to poor air quality. While most weather apps only show the current Air Quality Index (AQI) for a general area, AirTrace takes a personalized approach by calculating your cumulative "Exposure Index" based on where you actually go and how long you stay there. Users can seamlessly log their daily movements, such as commuting, working at the office, or exercising in the park. For every location visit, the backend automatically fetches real-time, highly localized US EPA AQI data (based on PM2.5 levels) using the Open-Meteo API. AirTrace then crunches these numbers to provide a precise, weighted daily average of your air quality exposure. The intuitive, modern dashboard gives users a clear overview of their day. Features include an interactive Esri-powered map charting out their route with color-coded markers indicating the AQI at each stop, an AQI timeline trend chart, and a detailed breakdown of time spent in different EPA categories (e.g., Good, Moderate, Unhealthy). Built with a robust React and Tailwind CSS frontend and a fast Express/SQLite backend, all data is processed efficiently and stored reliably. AirTrace empowers users with actionable data visualizations, helping them identify high-exposure hotspots in their daily routine and adjust their habits for a healthier life.
