CodePilot helps developers understand unfamiliar codebases faster by turning source code into an interactive onboarding guide. Developers can provide a public GitHub repository or upload a ZIP codebase. CodePilot securely ingests the project, filters unnecessary binary and generated files, and processes the relevant source code using a two-pass AI analysis pipeline. The generated onboarding report explains the project's overview, architecture, important files, dependencies and setup instructions, good first tasks for new contributors, and overall codebase health. Users can then interact with the analyzed codebase through an AI-powered Q&A interface to ask questions about implementation, project structure, and recommended starting points. The application is built using Next.js and TypeScript, with Supabase Authentication and PostgreSQL for user and analysis data, GitHub REST API and ZIP processing for code ingestion, and Google Gemini for AI-powered analysis. IBM Bob was used as the core development assistant throughout the implementation process, supporting application development, debugging, restoration of components, AI integration, and iterative verification.
