Spectra is a commercial real-time music visualiser: 161 visual styles, a 3D space stage of aircraft and orbital stations, and a full listening chain — running on phones, laptops, tablets and smart TVs. That reach created a problem. The controls that make Spectra expressive are fiddly on a six-inch phone and absurd from a sofa three metres from a TV. AssemblyAI removed the problem. Universal-3.5 Pro turns ordinary speech into 238 commands, so the entire player is operable in any form factor without pressing a single button: "play music", "next style", "mirror effect on", "reverb 40 percent". No wake word, no rigid grammar — the longest matching phrase wins, so "stop recording" stops the recorder and spares the music. Keyterm prompting sends up to 100 of Spectra's own names each session, so "Starflight Voyager" is recognised as a visual style rather than guessed at. The feature that changes how Spectra feels is mid-sentence language switching. Universal-3.5 Pro code-switches across 18 languages with no configuration and returns each speaker's own script — Devanagari, kanji, Han. A bilingual user never stops, re-phrases, or hunts for a language menu; they keep talking and the session keeps up. We widened AssemblyAI's turn-detection window so a natural pause while changing language no longer ends the turn early. Both AssemblyAI paths ship behind one button: the streaming WebSocket for live partial text as you speak, and Sync STT for one short clip in a single request — ideal for mixed-language speech, because nothing can cut the speaker off mid-thought. A free on-device engine covers users when the cloud is switched off. The API key never reaches the browser. Serverless functions mint session tokens that expire in five minutes and proxy the audio, so the whole voice layer is safe to ship inside a paid product.
