FirstHour

New developers lose their first hour - sometimes their first day - before they can run a project locally. The README may describe Postgres when the code uses SQLite. The .env file is missing with no example. The setup steps are stale. The safest first change is unclear. A new hire has to ask a teammate just to get started. FirstHour solves this. Paste any public GitHub repository URL or upload a zip of a project folder. Within seconds, FirstHour returns three things: 1. An architecture brief - a plain-English explanation of what the project is and how it is built, derived directly from the files that are actually in the repository, not from a README that may be wrong. 2. Setup checks — a flagged list of every gap between what the documentation says and what the code actually requires. Missing .env files, undocumented environment variables, and README conflicts are surfaced with clear conflict tags so a new developer knows exactly what to fix before they type a single command. 3. Five starter tasks - each one is a real, safe, low-risk first change with a specific file to edit and a proof step so the developer knows when they have succeeded. Tasks are chosen from actual file paths in the repository, not invented. Target users are junior developers joining a new team, open-source contributors starting with an unfamiliar codebase, and engineering managers who need new hires productive in their first hour. The developer pastes a URL or uploads a zip, then reads their personalized brief, works through the setup checks, and picks one starter task. No account is required. GitHub login is optional and saves history across sessions. What makes FirstHour unique is that it reads the real code, not just the docs. A stale README says one thing; the source files say another. FirstHour surfaces that gap explicitly, with a "conflict" tag, so the developer knows not to trust the documentation until they have verified it themselves. This is the problem no README linter addresses: the README can be perfectly formatted and still completely wrong.
