RepoRescue

Repo-Rescue is an AI-powered developer intelligence platform designed to solve one of the most common challenges in software development: understanding an unfamiliar codebase quickly and safely. When developers join an existing project, inherit an open-source repository, or work on a legacy application, they often spend hours reading files and tracing dependencies just to understand how the system works. Finding the important files, identifying the architecture, understanding the application workflow, and predicting the impact of a change can be difficult and time-consuming. This increases the learning curve and can lead to incorrect modifications or overlooked dependencies. Repo-Rescue addresses this problem by turning a complex GitHub repository into an understandable technical overview. A user simply enters the URL of a public GitHub repository. Repo-Rescue retrieves and processes the repository, filters relevant source files, analyzes the project structure, and sends the useful codebase context to an AI analysis layer. The results are then presented through an interactive developer dashboard. The dashboard provides a structured understanding of the repository, including its purpose, technology stack, architecture, important components, dependencies, application workflow, code-health observations, potential risks, and areas that may be affected by future changes. Architecture and relationships can also be represented visually, making complex projects easier to understand. The platform is built with a modern full-stack architecture. The frontend provides the interactive dashboard, while the backend handles GitHub repository processing, file filtering, analysis orchestration, and communication with the AI service. Gemini, accessed through the Google GenAI SDK, generates structured insights from the repository context. RepoRescue is designed for students, developers, software engineers, maintainers, open-source contributors, and teams working with unfamiliar or inherited codebases. Instead of manually navigating dozens or hundreds of files, users can obtain a structured technical map of the project from a single repository URL. What makes Repo-Rescue unique is its focus on developer understanding and decision support, rather than simply generating a generic code summary. It connects repository structure, architecture, dependencies, risks, and potential change impact into one unified view. This helps answer practical questions such as: What does this project do? Where are the important components? How does data move through the system? What areas might be affected if I change something? Repo-Rescue aims to reduce the time required to understand unfamiliar software and help developers approach code changes with greater context and confidence. It transforms the experience from “search through the code and guess” into “understand the codebase before you touch it.”
