OwlScope

Understanding an unfamiliar GitHub Issue or Pull Request can require developers to gather information from multiple places: the Issue description, comments, changed files, repository structure, related functions, and surrounding code. OwlScope demonstrates a practical solution to this problem. A developer provides a GitHub Issue or Pull Request URL, and OwlScope collects the relevant repository context through the GitHub API. It then uses an AI reasoning engine to analyze that context and produces a structured investigation report. The report brings together information that developers would normally have to investigate manually, including: - Issue / PR Summary - Feature Impact - Code Impact - Affected Files and Functions - Call Graph Visualization - Root Cause Location - Fix Suggestions - Test Generation Ideas - Security Impact - Potential Risks and Edge Cases The important part of the concept is that OwlScope is not intended to be only a chatbot or a one-time AI demo. The prototype demonstrates a workflow that could be developed into a real-world developer tool used alongside GitHub. A production version could integrate directly with GitHub and development workflows, allowing developers to investigate Issues and PRs from an online interface, assist with code reviews, identify affected parts of a codebase, generate investigation reports, discover related code or Issues, and provide technical insights before developers begin implementation. For this prototype, the AI analysis is powered by a local LLM through Ollama. This allows the demonstration to process repository information locally without sending the analyzed source code to an external AI service. The broader idea behind OwlScope is to transform GitHub Issues and Pull Requests from simple development records into structured sources of engineering knowledge and actionable insights. OwlScope is therefore presented as a working prototype of a developer intelligence tool that could evolve into a practical online platform for Issue and PR investigation.
