Wheelhouse is an autonomous options wheel for the Alpaca AI Trading Agents Hackathon. It trades a dedicated $100,000 paper account and only sells premium: cash-secured puts first, then covered calls if a put is assigned. The model is not allowed to invent strikes. Each cycle a deterministic screener ranks liquid large-cap contracts (slightly out-of-the-money, 5–21 DTE, size that fits 20% of equity). Gemini (Groq fallback) may choose among those OCC symbols, or hold. If both models fail, the top screened contract is still proposed so the book can trade. Between proposal and Alpaca sits a pure-function risk gate with unit tests. It vetoes live URLs, oversized notionals, a −2% daily-loss halt, more than four option slots, duplicate underlyings, cheap IV versus 20-day realized vol, wide spreads, and uncovered calls. Every pass and veto is meant to be readable on the dashboard and in the one-pager. Execution uses Alpaca’s paper Trading API (limit sells, position_intent, client_order_id). Market data is the free Basic feed: IEX stocks and indicative option quotes/Greeks. The official Alpaca MCP server is the operator path for the same paper account. This is built to win on P&L plus an auditable risk story, and to keep running after 4 September—not as a one-weekend 0DTE lottery.
