Portfolio Project Reviewer

Created by team ZeroDay on September 25, 2026

Students often build projects for college, portfolios, internships, and hackathons, but they may not know whether their repository is actually well structured, secure, documented, tested, or ready to present to recruiters. Existing AI coding tools mainly help generate code, while Portfolio Project Reviewer focuses on reviewing the completed project and explaining what should be improved. Portfolio Project Reviewer is an AI-powered project analysis platform designed primarily for students and early-stage developers. A user provides a GitHub repository or project for analysis, and the system examines the available project structure, source code, documentation, dependencies, configuration, testing, security-related patterns, and architecture. The platform uses modular analyzers to inspect different aspects of a repository and converts their results into structured findings. Each finding is designed to be evidence-based and actionable rather than simply generating generic AI advice. The system can identify weaknesses, explain why they matter, provide improvement recommendations, and present the results through a web dashboard. The project includes a React/Vite frontend and Python/FastAPI backend connected through an analysis pipeline. The backend integrates GitHub repository handling with multiple analysis modules and AI-assisted explanations. Results are persisted and exposed through APIs so that the frontend can display project findings, evidence, scoring information, and analysis results. Beyond basic repository scanning, the platform includes features such as project explanation, interview-preparation support, before/after improvement analysis, and self-analysis capabilities. These features help students not only identify technical weaknesses but also understand and communicate their own projects more effectively. The key idea is to make project review explainable and evidence-driven. Instead of saying that a project is simply "good" or "bad," the system connects findings to observable repository evidence and provides actionable next steps. This makes the tool useful for students preparing GitHub portfolios, internship applications, technical interviews, hackathons, and project demonstrations. The final implementation was hardened through multiple development phases. The project includes automated backend verification, frontend TypeScript verification, security-focused checks, graceful handling of GitHub/API/AI failures, documentation improvements, and a final verification report. The final backend test suite passed 103/103 tests during verification. The target users are students, beginner developers, educators, mentors, and anyone who wants a structured technical review of a software project before presenting or publishing it.
