Maintaining and onboarding developers to complex, decades-old enterprise applications presents a compounding operational bottleneck known as the triple-debt crisis: Technical Debt in the form of fragile code and obsolete dependencies; Cognitive Debt from the loss of original transactive memory, which forces continuous context switching; and Intent Debt, where historical business constraints, tradeoffs, and compliance mandates remain trapped in unstructured specifications. When engineering teams attempt to deploy standard single-agent AI coding assistants across these large repositories, they inevitably encounter context rot. Stuffing hundreds of source files into a single context window degrades model reasoning, exhausts token allocations, and triggers hallucinations, preventing effective automation. The Cognitive and Intent Debt Eradicator (CIDE) solves this systemic challenge as an autonomous, multi-agent developer workflow engine built directly inside the IBM Bob 2.0 IDE. Targeted at software engineers, technical leads, and enterprise security auditors inheriting undocumented codebases, CIDE transforms weeks of manual reverse-engineering into an automated ten-minute audit. Developers interact with the tool through Bob IDE’s chat interface by initiating Plan Mode to review and gate the proposed audit roadmap before transitioning to Agent Mode for autonomous, non-destructive execution. What makes CIDE creative and unique is its enforcement of strict context hygiene via IBM Bob 2.0’s parallel subagent architecture, circumventing monolithic context degradation entirely. An isolated Explore-type subagent inspects the repository's topology and coupling metrics using an efficient read-only model. Simultaneously, a General-type Intent subagent ingests unstructured legacy requirement documents to cross-reference documented business logic against live implementation, and a Compliance subagent audits dependency manifests against legal copyleft licensing risks. The workflow synthesizes these parallel streams into five production-ready repository artifacts: a structural topological map (ARCHITECTURE.md), an in-depth health card with a modernization roadmap (SOFTWARE_ARCHITECTURE_REPORT.md), formal Architectural Decision Records recovering the original developer intent (INTENT_ADR.md), a machine-readable SPDX 2.3 Software Bill of Materials (sbom.spdx.json), and an interactive browser dashboard tracking Common Weakness Enumerations (SECURITY_AUDIT.html). By combining deterministic report generation with specialized subagent reasoning, CIDE eliminates cognitive switching taxes, safeguards software supply chains, and accelerates developer onboarding velocity by up to 80%.
