Gaia Live — Humanitarian Event Observatory

Created by team Rockerzz on August 04, 2026

Gaia Live is a real-time humanitarian event observatory that turns passive awareness into informed action. The core experience is an interactive 3D Earth globe plotting live disaster events — earthquakes, floods, storms, wildfires, volcanoes, droughts, tsunamis, and epidemics — sourced directly from GDACS, the UN's global disaster alert system. Every pulse on the globe is a real event, refreshed every 15 minutes via Supabase Edge Functions. Tap any event and it becomes human understanding. Gaia Live's AI (Gemini 3.6 Flash, server-cached) generates a plain-language briefing: what happened, where, and who is affected. The "What can I do?" wizard builds personalized action plans from user skills, location, and availability — matching real volunteer opportunities scraped from 5 global boards (UN Volunteers, Red Cross, VolunteerMatch, HOT OSM, Translators without Borders). The Organization Lens surfaces 24 humanitarian organizations with live project feeds and AI-powered chat grounded in real data. Text-to-Speech works in 40+ languages via a hybrid engine: Speechmatics for premium English, browser Web Speech API for everything else. We built Gaia Live with radical transparency. Event highlights are honestly labeled as derived from GDACS data. The volunteer board shows an amber banner when displaying sample data. Timestamps reflect real data age. Shareable deep links open to exact events. Every data hook has graceful fallback to bundled sample data — the observatory never goes dark. Built in one week. Zero trackers. Zero sign-up walls. Free for everyone. Because the planet doesn't need more spectators it needs more people who know what to do. Stack: React 18, TypeScript, Vite 7, Tailwind CSS v4, Three.js, react-globe.gl, Supabase (Postgres + Auth + Edge Functions), AI/ML API (Gemini), Bright Data Web Unlocker, Speechmatics TTS, GDACS RSS.
